Dr. Stansbury is an experienced optometrist who has worked in many facets of his profession. He is a West Virginia native who was born and raised in Charleston, WV. He currently practices full-scope optometry in the Bridgeport and Buckhannon offices of Dr. Kress Eyecare Associates. He focuses on primary care, contact lens fitting, pediatrics, geriatrics, co-management of ocular surgery, and diagnosis/treatment of ocular disease.

Experience:

Prior to coming to Kress Eyecare, Dr. Stansbury worked as an optometrist and Center Director for LasikPlus, a large laser refractive surgery center outside of Richmond, VA, from 2009-10. He was responsible for the pre-operative, post-operative and emergent care of thousands of patients. He was also responsible for the business management of the location.

Before joining LasikPlus, Dr. Stansbury owned and operated a private optometric practice in southeast Virginia from 2005-09. He performed full-scope optometry including primary care, contact lens fitting, pediatrics, geriatrics, and diagnosis/treatment of ocular diseases. He also co-managed cataract and refractive surgery patients with area surgeons.

Dr. Stansbury worked as an associate optometrist in a large private practice in Charleston, WV from 2003-05. He performed full-scope ophthalmic care on adolescent, adult, geriatric, and convalescent patients. He focused on specialty contact lenses, ocular disease, ocular research, nursing home care, and surgical co-management.

Education and Training:

Dr. Stansbury earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from West Virginia University. He graduated in 1998 and remained at WVU for another year to complete more advanced courses in preparation for optometry school. While attending WVU, he served as the president of Delta Tau Delta fraternity president and worked for the university printing services.

Dr. Stansbury attended the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. He received his Doctorate of Optometry degree in 2003. During his tenure at SCO, Dr. Stansbury served as one of the college's Student Ambassadors.

Upon the completion of his professional education at SCO, Dr. Stansbury spent a year in clinical training. The first six months were spent in Pediatric, Ocular Disease, Primary Care, and Contact Lens rotations at the SCO Eye Center. The second half of the year was completed in West Virginia at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg and in a private practice in Buckhannon.

Certifications:

Dr. Stansbury is certified by the West Virginia Board of Optometry, the Virginia Board of Optometry, and the National Board of Examiners in Optometry to practice full-scope optometry including the use of diagnostic, therapeutic, and oral pharmaceuticals. He is fully licensed in the states of West Virginia and Virginia. He is a member in good standing with the local, state, and national optometric associations. He is also certified in AcrySof ReSTOR IOL Co-Management and speaks on ophthalmic topics for the Alcon Speaker's Bureau.

Hobbies and Interests:

In his spare time, Dr. Stansbury enjoys spending time with his family, mountain biking, lifting weights, watching Mountaineer football, and restoring antique cars and trucks. He currently resides in Preston County with his wife, Amber, their 2 year old son, Grant, and their chocolate Labrador Retriever, Mocha.
